Kids on Wheels - Balance Bike Camps

The Kids on Wheels Balance Bike Camps are designed to introduce children aged 2-6 years old to the joys of cycling. Our vision is that every child in British Columbia will know how to ride a bike by age 5, in order to encourage cycling as an integral part of their lives to support community health, wellness, and the environment.

Kids on Wheels

The Kids on Wheels Balance Bike Camps are designed to introduce children aged 2-6 years old to the joys of cycling. We use balance bikes and fun, hands-on activities to engage children in active transportation. Our vision is that every child in British Columbia will know how to ride a bike by age 5, in order to encourage cycling as an integral part of their lives to support community health, wellness, and the environment.

Kids Can Ride

The focus of this course is to help kids develop and practice safe cycling habits so they will be ready to learn how to ride with traffic when they are older. Through games and skill-related activities, the kids bike skills program teaches essential bike handling and safety skills to develop safe cycling behaviour, knowledge and attitudes in kids. This fun-filled three-hour course teaches helmet fit, basic traffic rules, how to check your bike and equipment, proper braking, hand signals/shoulder checks, bike handling with obstacles and more.

HopOn: After School program

A 3-6 week after-school program for riders 6-16 years old, HopOn After-School programs are designed to teach intermediate cycling skills, build confidence and connect local youth with one another through cycling challenges.

HopOn: In-School program

A 3-day in-school event that provides bikes and helmets for grades 4-6 and helps students learn basic cycling skills and safety awareness. Sessions stay within the safe confines of the school grounds and can be run on all-weather fields, grass fields, and paved areas. Most participants graduate to Skill Level 3 or higher by the end of the program.

Learn2Ride

An introductory course for grades 3-6 that gets students excited about urban cycling and introduces them to basic road rules and safe cycling concepts. Taught by trained instructors over 2 days, students learn through classroom activities and on-bike skills practice on the school ground.

Ride The Road

Targeted to grades 6-7, Ride the Road introduces students to the freedom and responsibilities of cycling in an urban setting. Taking place over 4-5 days, this course explores basic bike maintenance, road safety, and culminates in a small group neighbourhood road ride in the school’s community.
