Parent Participation Camp

In this camp we’ll mainly focus on getting the children comfortable on the balance bikes and wearing helmets, provide tips to parents on how to fit a balance bike to their children and practice important skills such as stopping, riding, balancing, and gliding. We’ll also read bike books and sing songs. Balance bikes help children to gain confidence, improve their risk management and allow easy transition to a pedal bike without the need for training wheels. This camp is designed for beginners and intermediate riders and parent/caregiver participation is required.

Preschool Camp

This camp is packed with fun balance bike activities! Our skilled instructors will design an interactive riding course for the children to explore every day. Through fun games and riding around the course we will be practicing important skills such as stopping, balancing, and gliding. We will also introduce some road signs and safety rules of the road. This camp might be the boost your children need before they transition to a pedal bike! It is designed for intermediate and advanced balance bike riders. Children are expected to be able to stay without parents/caregivers for the duration of the camp.

Summer Camps 2024

Every summer, from June to September, we visit various daycares and community centers where, from Monday to Friday, we run our fun balance bike camps. We bring all the necessary equipment: bikes, helmets, games, signage, cones, books and much more! We visit neighborhoods such as Kitsilano, Douglas Park, Trout Lake, West Point Grey, among others.

Our schedule for summer 2024 will be published in May.

For any questions on how to bring Kids on Wheels to your daycare or Community Center, please email antonella.scarin@bccycling.ca - Kids on Wheels manager

Parents, be aware that…

  • Kids on Wheels will provide bikes and helmets, but feel free to bring your own equipment! We will make sure it fits your kid properly and get them comfortable.

  • When not on the bikes we will read books, do some art activities and practice pumping tubes in our cool mechanic corner.

  • If you have any questions about which format best suits your child or what dates and locations are available, feel free to contact us at kidsonwheels@bccycling.ca. We'll be happy to help!

Testimonials

My child and I gained the confidence to use a balance bike on the road after practising indoors in a safe and guided environment at the camp. The coaches were very engaged and encouraging. Story time around biking was fun and interesting. It was our first camp and I am glad we had a great experience!

Parent of a two y/o, Kow Junior Camp, Kitsilano Community Centre

We really enjoyed the diverse activities that the program offered: from bike related books, bike related music, road obstacles and safety and bike information for parents. It was very well organized and we enjoyed it very much!

Parent of a two y/o, Kow Junior Camp, West Point Grey Community Centre,

[My child] really enjoyed the camp, and every morning he would excitedly ask me if it was time to go to bike camp yet! The instructors were very experienced, and the kids had a great time.
