Purpose
The BCCC is a registered Non-Profit Society that represents the interests of cyclists provincially.
We seek to secure recognition of cyclists in policy and programs in order to increase the safety and comfort of, and participation in, transportational cycling.
To accomplish this purpose the Society has adopted the following goals/objectives:
- To promote the use of the bicycle as transportation and ensure its recognition in legislation and policy;
- To integrate cycling into the transportation network and secure public investments in on-road and off-road infrastructure proportionate to its potential;
- To instigate a provincial role in promoting cycling consistent with its health, recreation, economic and environmental benefits;
- To raise the profile of cycling with government and improve its image and status with the public;
- To pursue cycling safety through education;
- To support the development of local cycling coalitions and other cycling bodies to secure improved conditions for cyclists;
- To promote cooperation, safety and respect among all road users;
- To encourage more people to ride bicycles more often.

A Brief History of the BCCC
We took our first baby steps in June 1997 at an Advocacy Workshop in Victoria. In November 1997 the steering committee met again, this time in Vancouver and the idea of a Provincial Cycling Coalition became a reality. March 1998, in Nanaimo, saw the election of an interim Board of dedicated volunteers.
The BC Cycling Coalition (BCCC) was born out of the desire to form an umbrella organization for Cycling Coalitions across the Province. This in order to be able to effectively lobby at a provincial level for transportational cycling. Our mandate also includes helping others to form new coalitions modeled after the successful Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition (GVCC).
